altWHEELING -- St. Michael Parish School eighth grader Teresa Pockl (left) has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2012, having earned the highest class ranking among her 41 other classmates. Nicole Lewis has been named salutatorian for the second highest ranking.
Teresa is the daughter of Dr. Scott and Amy Pockl of Wheeling and will attend Wheeling Central Catholic High School in the fall. During her grade school years at St. Mike's, Pockl was involved in many activities including cheering, girls' basketball, volleyball, track, yearbook club and the Junior Angels Youth Group. She hopes to continue cheering and running track at the high school level, as well as continue her dance training. Pockl says her career goal is to become an optometrist after graduating from West Virginia University.
Salutatorian Nicole Lewis is the daughter of Jon Lewis of Tiltonsville, OH and Lois Lewis of Wheeling. While at St. Mike's, Lewis was a member of the Scholastic Challenge team, girls' basketball team, and the yearbook club. She also stays busy playing summer league travel basketball. At this time, Lewis is undecided about where she will attend high school in August.
When asked what they will miss most about St. Mike's, both girls said the friendships they have made. "I'll miss the kids in my class because we all get along so well," Pockl said. "I'll also miss the teachers. They are all so nice."
Lewis agreed saying she feels fortunate to have made so many friends and formed so many close friendships from her many years at St. Michael's. Lewis began at St. Mike’s as a kindergartner while Pockl first started as a three-year-old preschooler.
With a mission to “challenge students spiritually and academically for the 21st century,” St. Michael’s boasts a rigorous faith-based curriculum, an unrivaled tradition of student community service, state-of-the-art SMARTBoard technology, and top-notch athletics and extracurricular activity programs. Welcoming students of all faiths and preparing them to be good stewards, St. Michael Parish School is “rooted in faith and committed to excellence.”
